Day 323...

Day 323...

Happy Monday everyone!  As the evening winds down, I'm wrapping up watching "Wild Wild Country," the Netflix documentary on the Rajneesh movement and ultimate take over of Central Oregon.  While this event started the year I was born, I don't remember much of the events as they happened in real time, but only what my parents had shared with me well after the cases had been closed.  As an Oregonian growing up as this was happening, I thought it would be worth my team watching.  I was hooked from the first of six hour long episodes.  I could boil it down to a basic thought of that everyone wants to be loved and accepted.  People long to have a sense of community.  Today is really no different.  The classic country song, "Lookin' For Love" by Johnny Lee comes to mind.  Sorry for the tangent.  The documentary is really well put together.  The use of the archive video along with the interviews of the key players was really well written out.  While six hours of a documentary may seem long, you will find yourself easily watching it in binge fashion.

I was really surprised to see so much local (Portland) news footage used.  I loved seeing some of the older newscasters on screen again.  These were the people who I saw on TV growing up, and had the chance to work along side of when I started in radio.

Some people may draw the comparison of what recently happened at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge to what the Rajneesh did with the land in and around Antelope.  There are some similar comparisons, but one is very much not like the other.

If you have the time, I highly suggest watching "Wild Wild Country."  You will not be disappointed.  Check out the trailer here!   PS.  A quick side note for you.  At the bar, there is a license plate from the Rajneesh compound. I'll take a picture with it the next time I'm at work.
