Happy "State of the Union Eve".... In my world, this is something awesome. Tomorrow, President Trump will hold his first State of the Union. Yes, he did address a joint session on Congress last year just a couple weeks after being sworn in, but that was not an official State of the Union. According to Article II, Section III of the U.S. Constitution,
"He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient;..."
President Trump is expected to cover some key subjects in the speech tomorrow. Immigration, economics, infrastructure, national security, and possibly the tax plan is what GOP sources have been touting this week. Regardless of party or how you feel about the President, the State of the Union is usually good theater. Every broadcast network and the cable news channels will cover the speech live. I'll try to watch it on C-SPAN so I can spare myself the talking heads. I'm not sure if you saw it earlier today, but there was a typo on the tickets. The world union was printed as "uniom". Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) even poked fun at it.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s State of the Uniom. pic.twitter.com/xdBUU3Pvo5— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) January 29, 2018
Last but not least, this is my favorite part of every State of the Union. The House Sergeant at Arms, Paul D. Irving, will speak these eight simple words, "Mister Speaker, the President of the United States"
