Day 274

Day 274...

Happy Sunday Everyone!  Today was a lot of fun and the weather was awesome.  Temperatures were into the 60s and the rain was nowhere to be found. As chronicled in previous posts, I've had some car issues and today was one of the days to fix one of the issues.  When I took my Dodge Journey in to have new tires put on, the dealership told me that the battery was testing really low.  When I had Tigard SUV do the diagnostic check on the radiator, they said the same thing.  They quoted me a good price on a battery, and the price to have them install it was a little more than I could afford at the moment. I went ahead and purchased the battery.  I figured I could install it on my own and save a few dollars. One thing to know about the Dodge Journey, the battery isn't under the hood like normal vehicles.

You can see the battery is located in the front part of the driver side wheel well.  You have to remove the wheel and take off the fender skirt to gain access to the battery compartment.  One feature that is really nice to have is a battery jump point in the engine bay.  You can see below that I removed the negative cable connection point.  Once I had that, we could begin to remove the battery below.

I'm thankful that my brother in law, Kenney was able to help.  Between the two of us, it only took about ninety minutes to swap out the battery.  Had it been a normal car, it would have been done in about ten minutes.  Battery replaced, now onto the radiator.  I'll leave that to the pros.
