Here it is Tuesday of race week in Portland. I've had a chance to really go indepth with the schedule and look at when I will be allowed to cross the track because I'm parking in the infield. Anywho, back to the reason I'm posting this evening. Every year the Champ Car World Series offers a ton of things to see off the track. It is a nice change of pace to watch something that isn't flying by at 100mph. This year I'm really excited to see the globe of death. Yes I said the globe of death. Dream Weaver, one of the head honcos at GEG sent me to their website. To basically explain what the Globe of Death is....its a large metal cage with multiple motorcycles going around at the same time. INTENSE is the best way to explain it. I'll have to take some pictures.
For the race fans, there are going to be many autograph sessions with access to drivers. As I said in an earlier posting, the drivers of Champ Car are very friendly and approachable. One cool really cool thing that Champ Car does happens after the track has gone cold. They throw some awesome street parties. Thursday night starting at 5pm, SW 6th and Oak in Portland will become the place to be. The street party will run until 9pm, so stop by and have some fun. Rumor has it that a pit stop competition will break out around 5:15. This is always a fun thing to watch. Any time a Champ Car is let loose in a city, it is an awesome experience. The noise bounces off the buildings and it send chills down your spine. Its going to be to fun.
For those of you who will be staying in the RV section, they are bringing the poker game back. Last year it was a blast with Tag and the TV crew joining in. Live music will hit the stage again. If I had a motorhome, I would stay there. The RV section gets going after sunset with alot of fun and goodtimes.
Paul Buker of the Oregonian had another great article in the paper today. Jimmy Vasser (one of my all time favorites) was the focus of the piece. Give it a look if you want.
