Champ Car: June 6th

Let The Fun Begin ! Thursday the fun really starts.

One event takes place early Thursday and is one of the most important events of the weekend. The annual Boy Scouts breakfast is a great event with the who's who of Champ Car and the Boy Scout community in Portland. Team owners, drivers, safety team members, and series officials all come together for a good cause and raise some money for local boy scouts and projects. The Champ Car Safety Team will be awarded the 2007 Motorsportsmen of the Year and Derrick Walker, of Walker Racing will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award. I highly recommend this event if you can make it next year. It is a great event with a bunch of really good people.

Media Day kicks off the weekend with credential pick up, a press conference, and a really really good lunch. Media Day is always interesting with teams making their drivers available to the media for interviews and other things we the media like to do. I'm sure tomorrow will someone will ask a bunch of questions about PT's (Paul Tracy) return to the series. I'm sure Paul will be itching to get back in the car and compete. He likes Portland and has done well here in the past.

On to the weather forecast: It doesn't look dry. Let me just say, I'm a weather nut and I have a little better handle on how the weather is here in the NW, but this time of year, anything can and will happen. The current forecast calls for showers on and off. Showers are downpours, plain and simple. If a heavy shower falls on the track, I expect all teams to take on the rain tires. Water will begin to drain off the track once the shower moves away, but it will take time for the track to have a dry racing line. This is where the debate about slicks vs. rain tires comes in. See my post about this earlier in the week. Its going to be regardless.

I found this cool article on the Champ Car Website. It details how the teams designed the new DP01s color scheme.
