According to my sources in Motown, the birds are there to eat those big Michigan moths. The birds hunt them on the ground and snap them out of the air. This isn't the first time that bugs or birds have taken over Comerica Park. In late August 2000, the Tigers were playing the Seattle Mariners when a swarm of flying anys took over the park. Pitchers and catchers sitting out in the bullpen lit a fire that kept the bugs away from them, but plenty of fans and players were annoyed with the flying buggers. Also, the Tigers have put out a plea for plastic owls. If you have any, please contact the Detroit Tigers Ground Crew at the following address.
