Well that was fun! There was a tornado warning issued for a tornado on the ground in Aurora and heading to Canby. I had just finished taping a podcast with Ashley Elzinga when my phone buzzed with a text from NWS Portland...TORNADO WARNING...

Here is what it looked like on radar....

I decided to go after it since it was early in the afternoon and there wasn't really anything better to do. I grabbed my twin sister and my niece and nephew and we set out to find the storm and see what damage it had caused. Here is the Facebook LIVE video of our chase.
We arrived in Aurora just as the NWS tweeted that they had staff enroute to survey the damage. We had heard that the storm had flipped a couple planes at the Aurora Airport so that was our first stop.
Driving around the east side of the airport, we saw the two planes on their tops. Here is what it looked like.

The damage wasn't limited to the airport. On the westside of the airport, the tornado broke glass on several greenhouses and launched this shed over the the road, into the airport fence and pieces onto the airfield.

I saw the damage and called it into NWS Portland. Tyree Wilde, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist was the storm survey guy this storm and he met me over at the Smith Garden's wholesale facility. The damage was somewhat impressive and anytime you can flip a plane on its back, you know it was a good gust. This evening, the NWS issued their storm survey.
