Day 24...
I love the TV series, The West Wing. I loved it when it aired, I loved it when I watched the full season with my parents, and I'm still loving it as I rewatch it on Netflix. The score to the show is also one of my favorites. Television music and film music has a power in my life that is real and very strong. The theme for West Wing is among my favorites in all of entertainment. Because music plays an important role in my life, many pieces of music have shaped and moved me. I'm a huge fan of John Williams, the american composer. He wrote the theme for Star Wars, ET, Jaws, and other blockbuster films. He also composed that we know today as the Olympics theme. If I was ever lucky enough to spend five minutes with him, I might honestly pass out. I've met Presidents and star athletes, never fainted, nor lost my composure, however...maybe I would if I met John. The theme for West Wing was composed by W.G. Snuffy Walden. What an awesome name. In an interview that I've posted below, he talks about how they came up with the theme.
It's funny how sometimes we find the answers to something when we weren't really looking. Today, my nephew suffered his first (and I pray last) big boy injury. Will had a play ground incident that ended up with eight stitches and the end of his baseball season, three games early. While this isn't something any of us were wanting or needing at the time, I have a feeling that a blessing or two will come from it. My nephew is tough and resilient just like his parents. Yes his knee hurts and he can't really do much for ten days, but I promise you Will, you will be just fine. Take a moment to look around and see what answers you can find. You might just be surprised.
