Safety is key

I woke up this morning to the news that the Redskin's Sean Taylor had passed away. Brian Berger, host of Sports Business Radio, has some interesting thoughts on his blog this afternoon. Berger's Blog It seems to me that athletes are becoming targets and that the public's thirst for knowledge about them, both on the field and off is leading this quest. People have to realize that athletes are just people. They aren't superhuman. Athletes have been given tools that make them play at a level that the average person can't. ESPN's Outside The Lines First Report today did a piece about players who carry firearms. Its becoming a fast growing trend, athletes with weapons for their safety.....I understand the need for protection and I for one have no problem with athletes carrying weapons as long as they are legally doing it. Fans need to realize that you can cheer for a player on the field or on the court, but that is it. A player is a person who has the right to privacy, no matter where he is.
