Days 198....199

Day 198...

Happy Monday!  I'll save my big post for tomorrow night. Welcome to week 37 of the job hunt. I hope this is the week!  I did want to share this photo. This is how I'm writing this blog lately...laser keyboard. This thing is awesome.

Day 199....My love affair with Christmas Music

Last weekend I posted on facebook "#TeamEarlyChristmasMusic".  I had to state my position because it is truly something I love. This love goes back to my childhood and listening to Christmas music was something we did as a family. You've read about Kenny & Dolly and how the family loves that.  One of my best friends growing up, Jamie Dunbar, turned me onto Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Sarajevo 12/24 is still in my top 3 favorite songs.  Starting in radio at KXL, I loved working Christmas Day for one reason....I got to play Christmas music. Thank you James Derby!  Another reason why I loved it, was the best kept secret...the blazers satellite would have the classics playing on a loop.  Rich Patterson and I have a great appreciation for classic Christmas music. I'd listen in a prod studio while I was wrapping up promos or just for fun.  I'd occasionally call the coupler line to listen.  Living in Portland, K103 was and is the go to for Christmas music this time of year. I'd listen as much as I could and when I went to work at iHeart, it was awesome to see the staff of K103 really get behind it. One of my favorite pieces of instrumental is this by Percy Faith & his orchestra.

We are coming up on the 3rd year since my dad unexpectedly passed. That year, Christmas was taken away from me.  I lost the spirit and the fun, as you'd expect. Christmas will never be the same, but I'll be sure about one thing...it will always be an important part of my life.  This is partially why I'm on the early Christmas music movement. I don't want to lose that feeling that I get when I hear it. I don't want it lose that passion I have for it.  Because I lost Christmas one year, I'll double down on making sure every Christmas is special.  Please don't get me wrong, I know we still have thanksgiving ahead of us and yes I celebrate that holiday because it's truly special for my family.  I think we can have Christmas music before Thanksgiving and not lose the importance of the holiday.  I simply choose to listen now.
