Days 46 & 47...

Day 46... Another slammed Thursday at the bar. Had the chance to play some new music (that I hadn't had the chance to do so before) and it was well received. Following the news of yesterday, it's funny how some on both sides of the isle are trying to score cheap political points. Now isn't the time to do so. Take a look at how both teams tonight came together. As Speaker Ryan said, it's not just an attack on one of us, it's an attack on all of us. Please continue to pray for those involved. Day 47... My phone blew up this afternoon as the news out of Sacramento was spreading like wildfire. Not sure what I'm talking about...Lindsay Ell, a country music artist was taken off a show at a local Sacramento country station. Why you ask? She's dating a radio DJ who works for iHeart Media, competitor of the station who removed her. While her personal life has no business when she's playing for her fans, a station's listener, or members of the press, it became an issue. 1. She should've been removed and 2. I give a standing ovation to the other two stations in Sacramento who stepped up big time to give Lindsay the time she deserved, especially KBEB, The Bull. Bryan Washington PD did the right thing. I want to address a couple issues that has come out of this, and the general state of country radio at the moment. There has been a push in the last couple years for program directors from Top 40 to come to country radio. While some have worked out like Johnny Chang with KKBQ in Houston, others have crashed and burned. This format is different than Top 40 or any other format. The incident today is an example. The Country Radio and Records world is a family. I'd venture to guess that most PD's in the format wouldn't have thought twice about the fact Lindsay was dating Bobby Bones. He wasn't on tour with her, wasn't in the room, wasn't even in the same time zone. I read some comments from country PD's who I admire and respect and I'm echoing their thoughts. The person programming the station in Sacramento isn't a country programmer. He flat out dropped the ball. The failure of today needs to rest squarely on his shoulders.
