Make It Better....

The Blazers kicked off the "Make It Better" campaign today at Jefferson High School. Blazers brass and players were on hand as the team unveiled the first of a number of new basketball courts that have been redone by the Blazers. Every school in the P.I.L. will receive a new floor from the team. Coach Nate McMillan gave a very emotional speech to the Jefferson student body about making it better. McMillan says being raised in a single parent home wasn't easy. He had to "Make It Better." The coach went on to college and then was drafted into the NBA. Brandon Roy and Greg Oden were on stage as the dedication ceremony took place. At the end of the presentation, members of the Blazers were presented with a gift. Mike Golub, Nate McMillan, Kevin Pritchard, Greg Oden, and Brandon Roy all received honorary letterman's jacket for their work on the project and in the community. The VIP list of this event was very note worthy. Former players Jerome Kersey, Kevin Duckworth, Chris Dudley, and others were joined by members of the Portland Public School Board and local dignitaries. Portland Mayor Tom Potter designated November 5th as "Make It Better Day." The Blazers continue to pursue opportunities in the community to make it better for all the citizens of Portland and the state of Oregon. The team will dedicate the other basketball courts over the next few months until all ten schools have a new basketball floor.
