At 5pm this evening, the new Comcast SportsNet went live. The station is dedicated to Oregon sports. The Blazers and Ducks will anchor the new channel as well as programming from Portland State and University of Portland. High school sports will have a big role as well. The best news of the night wasn't the launch, but the news of another cable provider signing on to carry CSN. I know that there has been a lot of talk about not having the network available on satellite or other local cable outlets. I talked with several people with the network and they all said that they firmly believe that they will get the deal done soon. I know that Blazers fan want it know, not later. People in both the Blazer office and Comcast are fully aware of this. I think that Comcast will indeed have its programming on other outlets soon. Tonights party and launch showed that Comcast is willing to do what it takes to get Oregon sports on television, and I don't think denying fans what they want is what Comcast wants. I would hope to see deals done in the next 30 days. That might be a stretch, but I think they could get it done in that time frame. Here is the video from the countdown and launch. Oregon's Peter Jacobsen pushed the button to get it all started.
