Media Promos.....

I've created my fair share of promos. Most of them were the breaking news type...."We we're first on the scene......Space Shuttle is in the air........Big Crash at The Air Show" ect.... I was spending my Sunday evening doing some research on weather related college programs and the official or un-official chasing that they offer to students as part of the studies. I was looking at some footage of the May 1999 F5 tornado that came near Oklahoma City. Some Oklahoma students captured some good footage which focused on the rotation of the storm. They mentioned Gary England. Gary is the weather king of Oklahoma. He made a cameo in "Twister", still one of the greatest movies ever made, as well as serving as a technical weather advisor to the movie. I youtubed his name to see what I could get. I was hopeful to see some of his on-air work from that May day. What I found was even more classic. This is a weather promo that his station, Oklahoma News 9 is running. Warning, very intense !

Ok, you must be thinking, wow they are really trying to scare the public. In certain terms, yes they are, but remember they are trying to convince you that they are the ones to trust. Good marketing on the stations part. However, some one alerted Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" to this promo. Here is his take.

I just laughed. TV stations do what they can to make us watch. I think the promo is a good thing, very intense and its gets a message to the public. What message you ask ? I'll let you decide. Happy viewing !
